Our Spiritual Quest

by Rev. Bob Johnson

September 11, 2001 changed many things but many have returned to normal. Many of us feel less safe and have a nagging anxiety that we are more vulnerable than ever before. Immediately following the terrible day a year ago, church and synagogue attendance increased dramatically and many people began talking about God and God's judgment. Others became very aware that their patriotism was in shambles and needed a real boost. Numerous people bought American flags and the flags flew as they had not flown in the past decade. Even today many flags can still be seen on cars, ties, shirts, buildings and in business windows.

While many continue to attend worship and fly the flag, many others have stopped going to worship and have ceased to fly the flag. Does that make them bad people? No, I don't think so. On the other hand, it does raise a concern about the spiritual depth of our nation as well as the favorer of our loyalty to our nation. Has September 11, 2002, changed you? Have you sought to understand the principles on which our nation stands? Have you sought out ideas about the nature of your spiritual ife? I sincerely hope that you have, regardless of your faith orientation.

Remember that Christian denominations are all seeking to better understand and apply the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It is not a matter of you're wrong and I am right. Rather, it is a matter of our continually seeking the truth of Jesus as Lord and Savior when he says, "I am the way, the truth, and the life." The explanation of that statement is not simple and its application is even more diverse and perhaps difficult.

The development of your and my soul is the business of every Christian congregation--to seek after a greater and greater understanding of the "inner kingdom". Why? Because Jesus says, "My kingdom is within you!" Have you taken time to remember to examine your personal "inner kingdom?" Modern intuitive followers of the discipline of energy medicine tell us that our biography becomes our biology. That means, of course, that every event in your life that has any amount of significance at all is ultimately recorded in your cellular make-up. The more negative your history, the more negative your life; the more positive your history, the more positive your live, and the more joy and confidence you will have.
