Soon you and I will be standing in voting booths deciding the future of our nation. No, we are not electing a president, but we are electing most of our state government, our governor, and a great number in the House of Representatives and the Senate, and at the Federal level many in the Senate and the House of Representatives.
I can't know how you are going to vote nor can I know the reasons you cast the ballot that you cast. My plea, as it is my personal prayer, is that I might cast my vote wisely and with insight; I sincerely hope you will do the same.
I have listened to many TV ads, as I am sure you have, and I must say I often come away more confused than ever. What does this or that candidate stand for, how will they function in office, and will they keep a sharp focus on the welfare of the people of the nation? Will this or that candidate see beyond their own political horizons and seek always to do that which they believe will be good for the people as a whole? I must admit, at times, I wonder who they are serving. With the amount of government waste, the lack of adequate funding for schools, failed policies in the farming industry, and seemingly always there is yet another war to fight in a place we barely know about.
What I ask of you, I ask of myself, and that is to become as well informed as I can be about the issues we are confronting. Having become informed, I sincerely hope you will vote your conscience, whatever way that persuades you to vote. Most of all, vote. Perhaps when we ask God what to do, we need to listen more carefully. I hear myself praying and I am saying I am ready to do anything God directs or to do nothing. When I do nothing, an old phrase haunts me over and over again, "to not decide is to decide". So decide and vote. Only then will freedom continue for you and me. The choice is ours; let each one of us use it fully and thoughtfully.
